So the buts are important, they are the ones that usually flash because there no bevel on the drywall where the but ends meet meaning, you must built your mud out from the wall. If your doing all the coats by hand or with the boxes, your last coat is gonna be a real tight coat just to fill in the pin holes and make everything real smooth. So we already have our but sanded, first you apply alot of mud to the but, make it even and square on the sides and make sure that you have mud covering most of the but. You press with your trowel on the side you need to clean off some mud, press with your wrist. Clean up both sides and try to make them straight, like the sides are even, but it don't really matter as when painted all that will disappear. What's really important is that it is not hump, so that it feels flat like the wall when we are finish. So you dont want all the mud push into the middle like a little mountain, your it will be humped. What you want to do is after you clean up the sides, you finish your but with a last stroke down the middle,don't press to hard but enough to flatten the middle hump we have created.
